Whitby offers a whole lot more than fish and chips. When a treat was called for a trip to Whitby’s Marine Hotel hit the spot

You know that feeling….. finished all the jobs on the ‘to do list’.  Planted trees, stacked firewood, had a bonfire, a busy productive day…suddenly it’s 5 o’clock with no clue what to make for supper. So it was for us last week end, frankly we both felt like a treat following the day’s exertions!

We were in luck, a phone call to The Marine, a bright lively little restaurant which overlooks the harbour on the river Esk in Whitby renowned for its fresh local fish including oysters, moule and lobster and live music too boot came up trumps. They could squeeze us in at 6.30pm…perfect.

Polite young staff ushered us to a cosy table which had a great view over the river Esk up towards that famous Abbey.

First of all which Cocktail? A Prosecco Classic was the perfect start.  Followed by oysters – a dozen fresh Lindisfarne rocks on ice, shallot vinaigrette – for sharing.

The menu was so inviting with a fabulous variety of locally sourced fish and seafood aswell as local Landers of Whitby T bone and Sirloin steak.  I took ages to make my decision but finally chose Lobster thermidor, crunchy little salty chips, fresh salad and caper mayo – all so lovely and perfect with a juicy New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

Danny’s favourite and a classic.  Soothing creamy Marine royal fish pie with the smoothest of smooth buttery mash.

By this time it seemed like all the beautiful people were beginning to arrive, laughter, chatter, clinking of glasses and the evening got underway. The atmosphere was warm and cheerful, live music softly drifting around this happy scene.

Finally

we shared the Yorkshire Parkin…Oh bliss and utterly scrumptious!

The Marine comes scrumptiously recommended to you by Danny and Liz
