DALE VIEW BARN AUGUST 2023
Dear Liz and Danny. What an amazing hidden gem in the middle of the North York Moors, we were very spoilt here in the ‘luxurious barn’ with the best views of the area! Especially for our first visit to this area of England this was spectacular. With the little girls real sightseeing was quite challenging, but we still managed to get a taste of the area: Saltburn (our only rainy day – unfortunately no mini railway, but we did travel the old original cliff funicular tram. Whitby, (the stones collected ensured several hours of kiddie fun), The Danby Show ( very lovely sunny day and unique experience for us ‘city people’:-) Helmsley and the walled gardens and best of all, the fun in and around the house (the toy shop that the kids loved, the walks into the heather, the great views, the cloud formations, the different comfy seats around the cottage and all the food – too many cakes, sones etc, etc! feeding the doves etc, etc. And then I nearly forget our great dinner date night at The Eskdale (their lemon Posset dessert is divine!) Thank you for the hospitality and for making this home so comfortable ( all little details and beautiful design/lighting etc was appreciated!)
DALE VIEW BARN AUGUST 2023
Great holiday! Relaxing stay with amazing countryside all around. Recommended – Danby Bakery, Staithes for crabbing + fossils. Robin Hood’s Bay, Betty’s @ Northallerton. Thanks again.
BEACON VIEW BARN JULY 2023
There isn’t much we can add to what everyone else has said…. Perfect welcome, perfect cottage, great barbie and ‘sit ootery’…. + fab grass (well done Danny!). PS The cakes from Danby Bakery were amazing:-)
DALE VIEW BARN JULY 2023
We enjoyed our stay greatly at your lovely barn. Very much appreciated your tasty hospitality too! Highlights, in addition to this idyllic spot, were the Steam Train trip through the Esk Valley, Whitby, including a boat trip and Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Walled Gardens. Some great gastro pubs tested too – thanks for your recommendations.
DALE VIEW BARN JUNE 2023
Another fantastic week at Crag House Farm. Weather was perfect and we spent the week exploring this wonderful area. Liz and Danny perfect hosts as usual. Thanks for the tip-off about the Tawny owl chicks! We hope to return.
BEACON VIEW BARN MAY 2023
Lovely to spend a couple of days in such a beautiful part of the country. The barn is perfect, we have enjoyed catching up with our friends, did a couple of walks then relaxed back in the cosy barn.
DALE VIEW BARN MAY 2023
Idyllic Spot: Excellent facilities. Charming Chatelaine (Liz). All con’s were Mod! Could’ve have stayed much longer. Absolutely loved it! Many thanks.
BEACON VIEW BARN MAY 2023
Like several other visitors, we’ve had the good fortune to stay in both of your lovely barns – and can’t decide which one we like the best! We just love being around your little green with it’s dovecote and then experiencing the sweep of wilderness on the other side – we’d never get tired of the view towards the church and the way the light moves over the landscape. I don’t think we can ever top eating outside whilst watching a barn owl hunt over the fields below. Many highlights include: Dinner at the Eskdale Inn. Breakfast at the cycle Hub. Helmsley walled garden. The excellent crazy golf at the Jack and Jill pub. Fish tacos at the Fish Cottage, Sandsend. But best of all is just being in this lovely barn – so quiet, so stylish, so well-equipped, so lovingly restored, set in such stunning landscape. Thank you.

Dear Liz and Danny. Thank you once again for a fabulous week in Beacon View barn. We just can’t get enough of this place. (Evident by this being our 7th visit!) It is so peaceful and relaxing. A real escape from our day to day lives! We have had lots of lovely trips out with favourites being: The Birds of Prey Centre in Helmsley. A trip on the steam train to Whitby (with lovely tea and cake in Sherlock cafe). A walk across the moors to the Cycle Hub (lovely lunch) then on to the Moors Centre (nice cake!) and back home again. The food at the Wheatsheaf pub in Egton was delicious and the staff so friendly – can definitely recommend. Thank you for making us so welcome, as always.
DALE VIEW BARN APRIL 2023
Dear Liz and Danny. We have had a wonderful 4 days in Dale View Barn – waking up to pheasants and the cuckoo calling. Wandering down to play pooh sticks on the stone bridge and laze on the bench at St Hilda’s across the valley. We were lucky enough to catch Whitby in the middle of Goth fest – what a fabulous spectacle. Thank you for the toys – a special touch and the garden wall served well as a tennis net. We’ve spotted rabbits at twilight which was a bonus for the 4yr old, 6 yr old and 8yr old sprockets. This is the most wonderful home from home and honestly we don’t want to leave.
DALE VIEW BARN APRIL 2023
We have had another wonderful holiday at Dale View (our fourth), the most stunning, solid, well equipped and welcoming house we’ve ever stayed in. We’ve made for old favourites this fortnight, in sunshine, rain, hail and fog: Runswick and Robin Hood’s Bay for fossils, sea grassland pebbles; walks over the top to the Cycle Hub cafe in Fryup Dale, along Blakey Ridge, Hole of Horcum, Roseberry Topping (sideways through the bluebell woods, not straight up), Farndale, Lordstones and Rosedale Abbey – cake and lunch at the Graze on the Green are amazing! The pathfinder guide for the North York Moors and the circuits on the North York Moors website give excellent suggestions as usual. The kids loved Treetop Adventures at Dalby Forest (our hearts are still in our mouths!) and the funfair at Beamish, next time we will revisit the Birds of Prey Centre at Helmsley. This time we enjoyed identifying upland birds from their calls on the RSPB website. Food has been mostly at home. Tesco delivery (and such a well equipped kitchen) has been a lifesaver. Thank you Liz and Danny, for a lovely and remarkable stay.
BEACON VIEW BARN NEW YEAR 2023
We feel so lucky to have started 2023 here. Our fifth visit and we hope not our last. There is still so much to do! It’s been wonderful to see Beacon View and the moors at such a different time of year and having the excuse to be cosy by the fire.
Thank you again Liz and Danny for being such perfect hosts – we only have one question: How does the 14ft Christmas tree get out??
DALE VIEW BARN CHRISTMAS 2022
Another happy family Christmas at Dale View Barn. We walked Egton Bridge, to Great Fryup dale, around the Esk valley and to Whitby. Lillie’s food was delicious as was the fare from Beadlam Grange Farm. It snowed on Boxing Day but we still walked. The Christmas Day service at St Hilda’s was fun and the Christmas Eve Carol service @ Danby Methodist Church was beautiful. The Reverend Alan is especially welcoming. -(If you need it the Whitby Hospital is very efficent!)- 🙂
BEACON VIEW BARN DECEMBER 2022
What an amazing special place for a relaxing 3 days with friends. Congratulations Danny and Liz for all you have achieved at your farm. It has been so much fun surprising you with our visit after 25 years! Danny has matured into a handsome 007 and Liz you are still beautiful and so much fun as when we were supporting our Pentathlete boyfriends! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality and hoping it’s not too long before we catch up again! God bless you both.
This was such fun ** a blast from the past ** and a lesson that we should take time out to catch up with friends:- From Liz and Danny
DALE VIEW BARN OCTOBER 2022
Dear Liz and Danny. What an amazing place! This is the nicest barn conversion we have stayed in, you have thought about everything to make our stay most comfortable and special.
The whole area is stunning. We have had the loveliest, most relaxing week visiting beautiful places such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Whitby and many more. The walks from Danby Lodge National Park Centre were breathtaking. The week was enhanced by blue skies every day. One drawback .. we needed more time!! Many, many thanks Liz and Danny .. We’ll be back!!
BEACON VIEW BARN 0CTOBER 2022

BEACON VIEW BARN OCTOBER 2022
We loved Beacon View – a warm welcome from Liz and a harvest moon greeted us. The weather has been fabulous so we were able to enjoy the coast walks around Robin Hood’s Bay without getting blown away.
The heritage steam railway was fascinating and the station at Pickering, a good place to see the engines depart for Whitby as well as purchase train memorabilia.
We are particularly interested in old churches and walked up from Beacon View to see St Hilda’s on the other side of the valley. It was in a very picturesque location and open on Saturdays and Sundays. Other fascinating churches include St Martins in Scarborough (fabulous Arts and Crafts interiors) and St Mary’s at Goathland (also built in the Arts and Crafts tradition) There was a good circular walk at Goathland to see the Mallyan Spout waterfall. The time passed far too quickly.
BEACON VIEW BARN SEPTEMBER 2022
How wonderful to spend one week with our family of three generations in this beautiful place! Beacon View is ideal for everyone who likes remote locations, peace and comfort within picturesque surroundings and lovely walks from the doorstep. What a divine place indeed! Liz and Danny do everything to make holidays a delight. The house is well equipped, we felt welcome in every aspect. Our 8 year old daughter enjoyed borrowing toys, playing in the big garden with the tent in the tree as well as feeding the doves. What we did and loved from here:
Sunday Mass at St Anthony’s in Brotton – What a beautiful little church!!
Visit to the seaside at Saltburn with the historic funicular tramway
Visit to Rievaulx Abbey – Majestic and impressive
Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton le Hole
Afternoon Tea in Lastingham Grange – wonderful!
We truly hope to be back!! Thank you so much and all the very best.
DALE VIEW BARN AUGUST 2022
Dear Liz and Danny. We have all had a lovely time at Dale View! On our arrival the house was buried under a thick blanket of fog, but fortunately the weather brightened up and we enjoyed our week of fun in the Yorkshire sun. Yorkshire is truly ‘God’s Country’! Whitby and Rievaulx Abbeys were stunning, we also enjoyed walks along the coast and e-biking up the steepest crags! The views from the cottage are gorgeous and it was the perfect place for our stay in Yorkshire. Thanks again.
DALE VIEW BARN AUGUST 2022
We have had an awesome time at Dale View and the views are marvellous! On one day we saw a huge bright rainbow! we loved the fabulous sandy beaches and the nature walks. The cake was delicious and thank you for the Prosecco wine! A big plus from us for the outdoor dining area and the picnic table. This is one of the best cottages that we have ever stayed in! Hope to see you soon.
