We loved Beacon View – a warm welcome from Liz and a harvest moon greeted us. The weather has been fabulous so we were able to enjoy the coast walks around Robin Hood’s Bay without getting blown away.

The heritage steam railway was fascinating and the station at Pickering, a good place to see the engines depart for Whitby as well as purchase train memorabilia.

We are particularly interested in old churches and walked up from Beacon View to see St Hilda’s on the other side of the valley. It was in a very picturesque location and open on Saturdays and Sundays. Other fascinating churches include St Martins in Scarborough (fabulous Arts and Crafts interiors) and St Mary’s at Goathland (also built in the Arts and Crafts tradition) There was a good circular walk at Goathland to see the Mallyan Spout waterfall. The time passed far too quickly.
