Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre will ‘pop up’ in York from June 25th until September 2nd.  A first in Europe.

‘More than 400 years ago, the first audiences for Shakespeare’s plays enjoyed an experience that was as intimate as it was exciting, crowded in close to the actors and the action, in a small theatre in the bustling city of London.

This summer in Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre an experience every bit as exciting, intimate and immersive will be offered to today’s audiences in a dramatic playhouse setting beside the iconic 13th century Clifford’s Tower in the heart of the historic city of York’ Surrounded by a Shakespeare village full of Elizabethan entertainment, delicious Yorkshire feasts and gardens to enjoy.

Take your pick of these four wonderful plays.

Romeo and Juliet  “For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo.”     “Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say goodnight til it be morrow

Macbeth  “It is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.”     “Is this a dagger I see before me, the handle before my hand?”

A Midsummer night’s dream  “The course of true love never did run smooth.”     “Though she be but little, she is fierce!”

Richard lll  “Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this sun of York.”     “Off with his head”
